As the nation await the February 25 and March 11 Presidential and Governorship elections respectively, voters in Rivers State, have once again been charged to conduct themselves in a manner devoid of rancor and acrimony.
Humanitarian Award winner and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Prince Ekelechukwu Kelvin Umejuru gave the advice while fielding questions from Kentochmedia in Port Harcourt on Monday.
He particularly cautioned the youths not to offer themselves as tools to politicians who have turned politics into a do or die affair.
Lamenting the rise of hate politics in some parts of the country, the youthful businessman and CEO of En Global Nigeria Limited called on the gladiators to rise above personal and partisan campaigns and rather pursue the corporate interests of the state and nation.
The renowned philanthropist decried what he said were uninspiring examples by politicians from the opposition parties in the state, saying such politics are not only distasteful but dirty.
His words, “The youths are not inspired by this brand of politics where your opponent is perceived as something worse than the devil. Politics is supposed to be an art or science of governance with political parties as the platform to carry out politics” he said.
Asked what his message to electorates would be, ahead of the Presidential and Governorship elections, the philanthropist advised Rivers people to await the directive of the governor on the Presidential election but to vote massively for the PDP standard bearer, Sir Siminalayi Fubara as well as all State and National Assembly candidates of the PDP in the state.
Prince Umejuru charged the electorates to leverage on the huge achievements of the Nyesom Wike administration and return the PDP back to power in the state, noting that Governor Wike had demystified governance and exceeded the expectations of Rivers people.
“The Consolidation agenda of the New Rivers Vision is a step in the right direction. Governor Wike has touched all nooks and crannies of the state, hence the wise thing for Rivers people is to vote for the PDP so that Sir Siminalayi Fubara will consolidate on these achievements and take our state to another level”, he said.
“For purposes of emphasis, the electorates should vote for Sim Fubara for Governor; Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo for Senate (Rivers West); Sir Allwell Onyeso for Senate (Rivers East); and Barinada Mpigi for Senate (Rivers South East).
“All the 10 House of Representatives candidates of the PDP should also be voted into the National Assembly, as well as the PDP House of Assembly candidates should be elected”, he said, stressing that the Consolidation agenda would succeed with a good symbiotic relationship between the Executive and Legislature.
