There is anger in the land. Most Nigerians are not happy that the presidential elections petition tribunal seem to have rewritten the section of the constitution of Nigeria which provides that for a presidential candidate to be declared winner in an election, the person must win 25 votes in the FCT.
But the court on Wednesday, Mr Justice Haruna Tsamani ruled that the constitution did not bestow any special status to Abuja and dismissed Mr Peter Obi’s prayers in that direction.
The decision of the court is how ever contrary to what the Supreme Court ruled in 2005 in the case between a Muhammadu Buhari and Olusegun Obasanjo.
Angered by Wednesday’s decision, some Nigerians took to the streets of Abuja to register their non- acceptance of the judgement.
Also at the court, there was some sort of sleeping contest. A serving minister, Festus Keyamo, some leaders of the APC, some counsel of the PDP, including Prof Mike Ozekhome, were among those caught by live cameras, as they slept during the judgement delivery.
