The Action Peoples Party (APP) chairmanship candidate for one of the Rivers South East local government areas is facing potential disqualification from the upcoming local government elections.
Reports indicate that the candidate may not meet the basic constitutional requirements to contest the election scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
The main issue lies with the candidate’s running mate (a female), who allegedly lacks a valid voter’s registration card from their area, a necessary document to qualify them to vote and be voted for.
Furthermore, her educational background is said to fall short of the statutory requirements to participate in the October 5th LGA election.
This development has sent ripples through the APP camp, as the candidate’s eligibility hangs in the balance. The party is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
With the elections just around the corner, this news has raised questions about the party’s vetting process and the potential consequences of the candidate’s disqualification.
As the situation unfolds, residents of the Rivers South East Riverine LGA are eagerly awaiting further updates.
Will the candidate be able to clear the hurdles and remain in the race, or will their candidacy be revoked? Only time will tell.
Efforts to reach the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIRC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli (Rtd) on the phone for his response, failed after repeated attempts.
