A new socio-political organization has been born in Rivers State known as ONELGA Connect Initiative (OCI), aimed at promoting good governance and community development.
The unveiling of the local government executives and ward coordinators of the group, which was simultaneously done with a leadership retreat on September 14th, 2024, at Omoku, headquarters of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local GovernmentArea (ONELGA), attracted dignitaries ranging from traditional rulers to clergy and political office holders.
Speaking during the launch, Chairman of the occasion, Chief Dr. John Ogbuku urged leaders to prioritize community interests, while OCI Chairman Sir Izidor Nwokocha outlined the organization’s mission to connect individuals and stakeholders for ONELGA’s development.
Ogbuku said that OCI’s core principles include inclusivity, good governance, community development, and leadership development.
He added that the organization aims to promote transparency, accountability, and development projects in ONELGA while training future leaders and politicians.
The organization expressed support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s leadership and vision, commending his administration’s achievements despite challenges.
This launch marks a significant milestone in ONELGA’s history, promising positive change for the community.
Similar initiatives have been successful in empowering rural women and girls, such as the Agents for Citizen-driven Transformation (ACT) program.
With OCI’s focus on community development, Rivers State may see increased investment and economic growth, as discussed at the recent investment summit, “Rivers Emerge: Advancing Pathways to Economic Growth and Sustainability”.
