The Egwuogba cultural festival of the Egi-Ogba people commenced last Friday in Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA), marking a joyous occasion for the Egi community to unite.

Top chairmanship aspirant, Mr. Chimuenya Henry Umejuru joined in the celebration by visiting two elderly citizens in Ogbogu and Ede communities.

Umejuru, who is the director of HH Foundation and owner of HH Hotels and Apartments, Omoku, went to Umu-Aye family in Ogbogu and gifted a cow, goats, livestock, and tubers of yam to the oldest man in Ogbogu, Pa Steven Ehiba.

The youthful philanthropist also presented to the Umu-Aye family a fat cash gift being their entitlement from TotalEnergy Nigeria Limited, where he serves as their contractor.

The Umu-Aye family, headed by Pa Ehiba, is a prominent family in the area, controlling about 60% of OML 58 in TotalEnergy Nigeria Limited.

At Ede community, the youthful hotelier celebrated the Egwuogba with another elder statesman and oldest man in the community, Pa Osah, also gifting him a cow, goats, livestock and tubers of yam. Interestingly, Pa Osah is the father of Umejuru’s bosom friend, Gabriel Osah (popularly called Jumbo Pocket), who is also the Youths Leader of the PDP in ONELGA.

In their reactions, the elated elderly citizens praised Umejuru for his commitment to improving societal well-being and prayed for his success in the forthcoming local government elections.

The annual Egwuogba festivity marks a celebratory occasion for Egi people at home and in the Diaspora to come together. The festival, which began with an all-night celebration in the whole of Egi kingdom on Friday, will end with the ceremonial casting of the fire on Saturday.

Umejuru’s gestures thus demonstrate his dedication to the community and his aspirations for the ONELGA chairmanship position.
