The Opobo Elder Statesmen-4-Sim, a prominent advocacy group in Rivers State commended the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for his handling of the recent political happenings in the state, which has resulted in a peaceful atmosphere despite expectations of trouble.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt at the weekend, the group’s spokesmen, Alabo Edwin Cockeye Brown and Alabo Reuben Mietamuno Saturday Jaja noted that Governor Fubara’s wisdom and leadership have been instrumental in diffusing the potential tension that could have arisen during the crisis period.
“We are pleased to report that there is now peace in the Port Harcourt metropolis and the state in general,” the statement read. “We call on all people of good faith to join hands with the Governor to bring about, rapid sustainable development to the state.”
The Opobo Elder Statesmen-4-Sim also applauded various groups within and outside the state, including the Rivers Elders Forum, Coalition of Civil Society Organizations, Human Rights Advocacy Crusaders, and some prominent Ijaw and Ikwerre elders, for their efforts in suing for peace in Rivers State.
The Opobo Elder Statesmen-4-Sim expressed confidence in the state’s institutions and legal system to adjudicate the transition-related issues fairly and impartially, while emphasizing the need for all parties to respect the rule of law and refrain from actions that could escalate tensions or disrupt the peace in Rivers State.
