The anticipation is palpable in Opobo Kingdom, Opobo Nkoro Local Government Area following the 82nd birthday celebration of His Majesty, King (Dr) Dandeson Douglas Jaja, Jeki V, Treaty King, Natural Ruler, and Amanyanabo of ancient Opobo Kingdom.

In a phone conversation with  the Public Relations Officer of Opobo Council of Chiefs, Alabo Godwin Bupo on Friday, he disclosed that the celebration will culminate in a Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Opobo Town on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

Bupo highlighted the significance of the occasion, anticipating a momentous event that will resonate with the grandeur of King Jaja’s reign and the reverence of his people.

The Thanksgiving Service which is expected to be a sacred gathering where heartfelt gratitude will be offered for the wisdom, grace, and benevolence that King Jaja has bestowed upon the kingdom throughout the years. It symbolizes the unwavering commitment of the monarch to the prosperity and unity of Opobo Kingdom.

The event is anticipated to draw a large gathering of dignitaries, community members, and well-wishers who will come together in unity and jubilation to honor King Jaja’s illustrious life and reign. It is seen as a reaffirmation of loyalty and devotion to his noble leadership.

As the king prepares to celebrate this significant milestone, the atmosphere is filled with anticipation and excitement, reflecting the deep respect and admiration held by his people.

Meanwhile, the Opobo Council of Chiefs has announced the appointment of Alabo Edwin Adonye Cockeye-Brown as its Vice Chairman. The decision was reached during a recent meeting held in Opobo Town, headquarters of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area.

The Council’s spokesman said the Vice Chairman, who is the Head of the Cockeye-Brown War Canoe House of Opobo Kingdom, has long been recognized for his contributions to the community. He is also the Chairman of Opobo Elder Statesmen-4-Sm, an influential advocacy group that campaigns for good governance and supports the administration of Governor Siminialayi Fubara.

The appointment of Alabo Cockeye-Brown as the Vice Chairman of the Opobo Council of Chiefs comes as no surprise, given his extensive experience and dedication to the welfare of Opobo Kingdom.
