Renowned Nollywood actress, Rita Edochie, has delivered a heartfelt message to Nigerians, urging them to refrain from questioning the deaths of movie stars.
According to Edochie, death is an unpleasant and inescapable occurrence, a natural call that cannot be avoided.
Taking to her Instagram page, @ritaedochie, the veteran actress expressed her disapproval of questions such as “What is happening in Nollywood?” She emphasized that death is not exclusive to actors but touches the lives of everyone.
“Celebrities are human beings too. They experience death just like individuals from various walks of life,” she asserted.
Edochie went on to explain that the public’s reaction to the demise of celebrities, whether positive or negative, is often heightened due to their popularity and the impact they have made in the entertainment industry.
“If teachers, doctors, lawyers, businessmen, and even pastors can pass away, then why should the deaths of filmmakers be regarded as something out of the ordinary? Are actors not human beings as well? Such questions are vexing and need to cease because death is simply a displeasing call of nature,” she wrote.
In the wake of the passing of Nollywood legend Amaechi Muonagor, who succumbed to a prolonged illness at the age of 62, Rita Edochie mourned his loss. She acknowledged that Muonagor had fought valiantly to stay alive, but when the time came, nothing could prevent his departure.
“It is disheartening that he could not overcome this illness. Amaechi, your absence has created an irreplaceable void within my family and me. You were more than a brother and colleague; you were a beacon of light, brightening our days with your infectious laughter and unwavering kindness,” Edochie expressed.
As she reflected on the cherished moments and wisdom gained from Muonagor, Edochie concluded by emphasizing the profound impact of his absence, which resonates deeply with all who knew him.
