With ongoing efforts by stakeholders to restore peace in the state following attempt by a section of the Rivers State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminialayi Fubara, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oroigwe Ward 1 in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area have warned they would not fold their hands and watch any threat to the life of the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule.

Rising from a high-stakes meeting held on Tuesday, November 9, 2023, the PDP members in a communique signed by 17 influential leaders, including HRH Eze (Barr) Emmanuel I. Utchay JP, Amb. Osondu Orlu (Ward Chairman), Morgan Kachi Uche (Ward Secretary), Glory Ejekwu (Organizing Secretary LGA) and Counselor Ward 1, Azuonwu Michael Uche, amongst others, warned that the safety of the Rivers Assembly Speaker remain their utmost concern.

In the strongly worded communique, the leaders outlined their collective stance on the matter, and condemned what they described as “diabolic attempts” on the life of Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, alleging that the action was carried out by Mr. Chijioke Ihunwo and his cohorts.

Their resolution was clear and resolute, sending a powerful message to those who might entertain the idea of threatening the Rivers Assembly Speaker whom they described as their son and brother.

Asserting believe that the issues at hand were purely political and should be resolved through appropriate political mechanisms, the group vowed to resist any attempt to characterize the issues as ethnic, firmly maintaining their stance that the matters are political in nature.

They called on the security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incidents leading to the attacks on the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“Finally, it is our resolve to reaffirm our belief, commitment and total loyalty to our political leader and mentor, His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, GSSRS, Hon. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and his leadership in the state.

“We also reaffirm our commitment and support to our Ward Leader and Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule”, the PDP members declared.
