A Youth Activist, Charles Jaja has called on Governor Similaiyi Fubara and the commissioner of Police in the state, Emeka Nwonye not to allow the death of Alafuro Peterside who was shot by a Gombe Officer to be swept under the carpet.
Mr Jaja who made this known in an audio statement said thorough investigation should be carried out to unravel the true cause of what led to his death insisting that the police officer responsible for the act should be made to face the law.
“It was unfortunate that our late brother Alafuro Peterside’s life was cut short by a happy trigger policeman. It is a saddening incident and to note that a police officer who was employed to save lives chose to abuse the rare privilege of being a police officer. For a police Officer to have killed Alafuro in the very presence of his three children and wife, living them heavily traumatized, i know what the wife and the children are going through. Imagine when a child asks you, “Uncle why did the police officer kill my father? ” it’s difficult to give him the answer. And this is why i want the Police authority in the state, especially the commissioner of Police to ensure that a thorough investigation is done and that this matter is not swept under the carpet. That the man who committed the act should face the cause of the law.
Recall that the Rivers State Police Command said they had arrested the Police Officer who was said to be attached to the Police Mobile Force (PMF) 43 squadron, Gombe state over the killing of Mr. Alafuro Peterside.
The command through its spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko said that the Police Officer shot in the air in response to an alarm raised by some persons that there were robbers around the area adding that bullet from the gun of the officer hit Mr Peterside who was rushed to a hospital where he was confirmed dead and assured that investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Wife of late Alafuro Peterside is demanding for Justice on the matter.
She Insisted that her husband was shot directly and not by stray bullets as earlier reported by the police adding that she and her three kids aged 11, 8 and 4 are yet to recover from the shock of his death .
