Amuzi Dim-Na-Nume Isu Community in Nwange Local Government Area of Imo State have been thrown into mourning following the sudden demise of Chief Paul Onyeaka, a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
Until his death on Friday, April 22, 2023, Onyeaka who was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Ugwumba, has been living in Owerri, Imo State capital since retirement in 2018.
The sad news of his passage filtered into the community like a tornado, and left everyone shocked and speechless.
Reacting to the unfortunate incident, the National Chairman of Amuzi Progressives Union (APU), Mr. Obinna Otuonye, told this medium that Ogwumba’s sudden and painful death was more hurtful as only a week ago, the late chief joined other kinsmen to attend a traditional marriage in Anambra State.
“We related quite often since we all reside here in Owerri. He was a jolly joyful fellow, full of life and smiles. As we travelled to Anambra
State, I never imagined that I was seeing him for the last time.
“My God! Life is so unpredictable, death is just wicked. I just can’t believe Paul is gone”, Otuonye wailed, and prayed God to take care of the beautiful wife, Ann and the three kids which the late Onyeaka left behind..
It has been floodgate of tributes as Amuzi people, home and abroad, took to the APU social media platforms to bemoan the heart-rending news..
Mr. Harry Alimnu who spilled sad news in the APU WhatsApp platform, wrote: “BREAKING NEWS: One of us has flew away again 😭 May the soul of Chief Paul Onyeka and the souls of other faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace”.
@Sammy Technical Services simply wrote “Chai!! May his soul rest in perfect peace”, just as Ugochukwu Nwosu queried: “Whaaat? What happened?”
Mr. Maxwell Ukaegbu wrote: “This is another big loss. May his soul rest in peace”, followed by Obinna Uzoma (Ngaba): “May your soul rest in peace, Chief”.
“What a great loss!, May his soul rest in peace”, wrote@Okay, while Amaechi Rowland curtly asked, “Unbelievable, how did it happen?”.
Mr. Obinna Atum prayed his soul to rest in peace, as Okemdi Uzoma wrote: “Chief Paul onyeka, may your soul Rest In Peace”, with Michael Kelechi Iwu screeming “What a world” and posted a video clip where the late Onyeaka administered the oath of office at the inauguration of the Obinna Otuonye led executive.
@Bishop wrote, “Jesus Christ… A shocking news, chai… May his soul rest in d Lord.. Amen”, while @CharlesChima wrote: Oh no, Chief Paul rest in peace and rise in glory”.
Amaechi Ezem Elechi expressed confusion and asked, “My GOD!. Is it Chief Paul Onyeka, the son of Late Dee Gabriel Onyeka of Ndinkpa, the retired police officer? Wonderful!
When did this happen please?
I have never heard that he was sick for one day. Oh! What a world.
May his soul rest in peace”.
Mr. Charles Osigbo and Barrister Francis Alimnu drew the curtains in rather philosophical fashion.
“Who can predict tomorrow? How are the mighty fallen?, Ugwu Mba, your death is a big blow to the Onyekas and Amuzi community. May your gentle soul rest in peace, Amen”, Osigbo wrote, while Barrister Alimnu had this to say: “It is heart breaking, hard to believe and accept. I’m yet to come to terms with the reality. What a big and sorrowful loss”.
As Amuzi Community attempts to grapple with the reality of the sudden and unexpected death of Ugwumba Paul Onyeaka, more tributes are expected as we gathered that condolence register has been opened at the residence of the late retired ASP in Owerri, Imo State.
