Ahead of the March 11 Gubernatorial election across the country, the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced Friday, March 3, 2023 as date for a debate among the contesting Governorship candidates in the state.
Addressing a press conference at the Ernest Ikoli Press Center, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt on Tuesday, State Chairman of NUJ, Stanley Job Stanley said the debate was being organized to hear what the candidates and their parties have to offer to Rivers people.
He said the debate will hold a week after the Presidential election at the NUJ Secretariat, Moscow Road in Port Harcourt, but said the number of candidates will be limited to seven.
Stanley who was flanked at the press conference by State Secretary, Ike Wigodo and veteran journalists, Ignatius Chukwu and Ilanye Jumbo, explained that letters were sent to all the governorship candidates out of which seven were voted by the public to participate in the debate.
He announced the participating political party candidates to include: Dumo Lulu-Briggs (Accord Party); Sir Siminalayi Fubara (PDP); Senator Magnus Ngei Abe (SDP) and Pastor Tonye Cole (APC).
They will also be joined by Comrade (Chief) Mrs. Beatrice Itubo (LP); Hon. Dawari Goerge (AA) and Tekena Iyagba ( Boot Party).
