The remains of late Mr. Emmanuel Uwalaka Agikwa, affectionately known as ‘Ogwunde’, will be laid to rest on Friday, December 27, 2024, in his hometown of Amuzi in Dim-Na-Nume Isu, Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State. His passing, following a protracted illness, has left a void in the hearts of many who cherished his vibrant spirit and infectious laughter.

Ogwunde, who was affectionately hailed as the funniest man in the community, was not just any socialite; he was a master of wit, known for his quick comebacks and hilarious anecdotes. His ability to lighten the mood turned every gathering into an unforgettable occasion.

“He had a special gift,” recalls a longtime friend, “no matter how serious the conversation, he could find a way to bring laughter into any setting.”

One particularly memorable encounter illustrates Ogwunde’s unique talent. It was a sunny afternoon when a man returning from the city, eager to flaunt his newfound status, attempted to insult Ogwunde by calling him a drunk. At the time, Ogwunde had just finished a bottle of beer, casually tucking the empty container under his armpit. Unfazed, Ogwunde fixed a knowing smile on the man and responded, “You idiot, we’re discussing your situation here. We need to raise money for your transportation back to the village!” The remark not only silenced the heckler but also sent ripples of laughter through bystanders, showcasing Ogwunde’s mastery of humor and conflict resolution.

Beyond his quick wit, Ogwunde was an emblem of cultural pride, credited with popularizing the lively ‘bongo’ dance in the Isu community during the late 1960s and into the 1970s.

Events and celebrations felt incomplete without his magnetic presence, as he brought an unmatched energy to the dance floor that was both entertaining and inspiring. Women would often recount how his dance moves could light up the night and compel even the shyest of individuals to join in the revelry.

Adieu, Ogwunde! Your life was a masterclass in bringing joy, laughter, and connection to those around you. As the community gathers to bid farewell on December 27,, many will share stories that celebrate his legacy, ensuring that the joy he spread during his lifetime continues to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.

“Every gathering is a little dimmer without him,” lamented one of Ogwunde’s admirers. “He had a way of making every moment count, and for that, he will always be remembered.”

As Ogwunde takes his final journey home, the laughter he inspired will echo in the hearts of friends, family, and the entire Amuzi community for years to come.
