Rotimi Akeredolu, the Governor of Ondo State, has passed away at the age of 67.

Sources from the family confirmed his demise on Wednesday in Lagos, where he had been receiving medical care under the supervision of State House doctors. Despite efforts to seek treatment abroad, the Governor remained in Lagos, where he eventually passed away.

Governor Akeredolu had returned to Nigeria in September after a prolonged medical absence in Germany. Recently, he had taken another medical leave after being advised by President Bola Tinubu to hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

During his illness, Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa had been acting in his stead.
