The countdown to one of the most anticipated events in the Nigerian music industry has begun as the 2023 Galaxy Music Awards (GMA) Season 5 gears up to celebrate the event themed “Our Sound Our Heritage”.
The Executive Director of GMA, Stanley Amuchechukwu Azubike in a release issued in Port Harcourt on Friday, said the event which will hold on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, will see the city come alive with the beats and melodies that define the cultural fabric of the South-South and South East regions of the country.
He said the GMA, renowned for recognizing and honoring musical talents across various genres, has expanded this year, featuring an impressive lineup of 25 award categories.
The categories range from Best Male/Female Artist of the Year to Song of the Year, and Album of the Year, aiming to encompass the diverse talents that enrich the regions’ musical landscape.
Azubike listed the Awards as follows: Album of the year, Artiste of the year, Best collaboration, Gospel artiste of the year, Best vocal performance (female, Best vocal performance(male), Lyricist of the roll, Producer of the year, Song of the year, Best gospel Album of the year, Choir of the year, (Port-Harcourt), Next rated, Video director of the year and Best street track.
Also for grabs are awards as Best Band, Best Highlife Single, Best Ogene Music, Best Bongo Music, Best Indigenous Sound, Best Gyration Music, Best Ijaw Music, Best pop single, Dj Of The Year, Radio station of the year, Special recognitions and Lifetime achievement awards.
Adding to the excitement, leading music streaming platform BoomPlay has stepped up as a co-sponsor, further enhancing the event’s prominence and reach.
Azubike added that the partnership with BoomPlay promises an elevated experience for music enthusiasts, ensuring that the celebration of South-South/South-East music reaches a global audience.
