…Tells President: Tinubu: “It’s Politically Motivated”
Civil rights activist and Port Harcourt based lawyer, Barrister (Mrs) Goma Kindness-Kalio Ohochukwu, has voiced her opinion on the recent protests against the appointment of Chief Tony Okocha and Hon. Boma Iyaye into the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Ohochukwu while reacting to the development in Port Harcourt on Monday, dismissed the protests as ill-informed and politically motivated.
While describing the protests as ill-conceived,, Ohochukwu who was a member of Contact and Mobilization, Presidential Campaign Council PCC South-South Directorate, Secretary, Welfare/Entertainment Committee during the 2023 Presidential rally in Rivers State urged President Bola Tinubu to disregard the protester,
asserting that Chief Okocha and Hon. Iyaye are highly qualified candidates whose expertise will greatly benefit the Niger Delta region.
The legal practitioner who also coordinates the Rivers APC PCC
Alliance (RAPA), emphasized that both Chief Okocha and Hon. Iyaye have a track record of excellence in their respective fields and have demonstrated their commitment to the development of the Niger Delta region.
She pointed out that their appointments align with the government’s agenda to revamp and enhance the operations of the NDDC.
Ohochukwu who is also the National President, Political Falcons of Nigeria, urged the protesters and their sponsors to consider the qualifications and capabilities of the appointees
rather than resorting to opposition for the sake of opposition.
Ohochukwu argued, “It is crucial for the Niger Delta region to have capable and dedicated individuals at the helm of affairs in the NDDC. Chief. Okocha and Hon. Iyaye possess the necessary skills and experience to drive positive change and sustainable development in the NDDC. The protests against their appointments only serve to create
unnecessary division and hinder progress.”
As a way forward, Barrister Ohochukwu advocated a more constructive dialogue between stakeholders in the Niger Delta region and the government, even as she urged all parties to work together towards the common goal of improving the lives of the people in the region.
“Where were these protesters who are today causing chaos, confusion and breach of peace when President Bola Tinubu came for his campaign in Port Harcourt and commended Chief Tony Okocha who was working gallantly with all the PCC/ICC members?
“At no time did Tony Okocha campaign against his principal Tinubu, rather the reverse is the case. Let us call a spade a spade and crave for peace and tranquility”, she cautioned..
